AWIPEV Permafrost Observatory

The AWIPEV Permafrost Observatory is located at the Bayelva site close to Ny-Ålesund. Here, a variety of  measurements is operated from the surface down to 9 m in the permafrost ground. The long-term observations monitor the status of the permafrost and active layer, and further allow to mitigate energy fluxes between permafrost and atmosphere.
